An Easy Way To Stop Weeds Spreading
Regular mowing not only aids in keeping our lawns and gardens tidy, it has other benefits as well. Such as promoting the tillering effect, when a lawn will thicken up its green leaf, while slowing down the growth of it's runners. Another great benefit is it's assistance in the reduction of weeds.A Simple Trick Really
By mowing regularly, we can remove the flowering stalks and seed heads that would have propagated the next generation of weeds in our lawns, often removing the flower before seeds even form. It's that simple.
Not For Everyone
While it's a great trick, keeping our lawns beautiful into the next season, and reducing our dependance on herbicides, it won't work for all weeds. Unfortunately some weeds form their seeds below mowing height, others seeds are very small and profuse, and won't be caught or removed by mowers. As for them, we just need to revert to our standard practices of weed control.Pull first, and spray last.

Lawn Fact
The old saying... "1 year of seeding equals 7 years of weeding" is TRUE. Seeds can stay in the ground for many years, only germinating a percentage each year. This ensures the survival of the plant species - where if conditions aren't right for it's survival this year - conditions will be right at some time in the next few years.
