How To Kill Capeweed

Cape Weed is an annual herb with light green leaves noticeable with a very large serrated outline, the bottom of the leaves are usually a silvery white colour. Germination begins in Autumn, and the life cycle continues until late Spring or early Summer when it sends out its single yellow flower with a black centre, for pollination and seeding.

Cultural Management

The continuing life cycle of Cape Weed can be controlled by regular mowing whenever it's flowers or seed heads are apparent. By constant removal of it's seeds, the weed misses it's only means of reproducing.

Hand pulling is also an easy and effective treatment, as well as hoeing over the small seedlings.

Herbicides

Both Selective and Non Selective Herbicides can be used to easily control Cape Weed. Herbicides are readily available at nurseries in a concentrated form which needs to be diluted with water prior to application by sprayer or watering can.
